Gwen & Bobby :: An Uptown Wedding

I was really looking forward to this one.  One of my closest cousins growing up, Gwen, was getting married and I was to document the day.  Now, I've played the part of guest and hired help before, but this one was special.  I really do have the best family around....everyone is just so awesome.  You'll have to excuse the length of this post...this is not for the casual viewer.  This is my kin here.

Anyway, we had your classic New Orleans Uptown wedding.  The ceremony took place at Mater Dolorosa, one of the prettiest churches you've never heard of, and the reception at the Opera Guild, which just oozes that old money elegance and charm.   It's safe to say that I had a good time despite "working", and I found a new photo assistant that would make even the most seasoned photog proud.  (More on that below...)

Enjoy the photos...

So here's the thing...my 11 year old cousin is an amazing photographer.  When he first came up and asked to use my second camera, I have to admit that I hesitated for a minute.  I set it up, nervously handed it over, and told him to keep the strap around the neck.  I thought I might get a couple of cool shots back, but I never expected this.  This kid is a pro.  I mean, sure, he doesn't exactly know what an f-stop is, or what ISO does, but anyone can learn the technicalities of a camera.  This kid has an eye, and quite frankly, I was jealous of some of his shots....accident or not.  So thank you James, you proved to be my favorite second shooter to date, and I'm not kidding.  If we lived in the same city I would 100% pay you to come to weddings with me.  No joke.  Someone in the Archer family get this kid a camera!

As you'll see below, any of James' shots are marked as such.  And like me, you'll probably start to wonder just what exactly is it a "professional" shooter does...

  1. The champagne glass photo, the old man eating from a bowl, the thumbs up selfie in a mirror! Talent that boy's got. How cool would it be if you sparked his future in photography!
